As part of Women in Construction Week, our female apprentices joined the Group’s Operations Support Manager Ryan Christie and PPS Electrical Electrician Rochelle Wright for an inspiring conversation about their career journeys and role models, the availability of PPE and female spaces, and the improvements they would like to see within our business and the wider industry.

It was a powerful reminder of the value of creating spaces where women can openly share their experiences, challenges, and ambitions. Our apprentices spoke passionately about what drew them to their roles, the importance of visible female representation, and how small but meaningful shifts can make a significant difference to women entering and staying in the sector.

This week, as part of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, two Shepley Group Directors visited some of our apprentices across our West Cumbrian facilities.

Trevor Marrs (UK Projects Director) and Callum Woodend (West Cumberland Engineering Managing Director) joined apprentices at our Lillyhall workshops for their daily pre-job safety briefing, followed by a tour of the facility and a review of their current training programmes.

They also visited Lakes College to see our 1st year apprentices in the Skills Centre to review how their initial training is progressing and share some of the exciting opportunities awaiting the apprentices once they leave college.

The day was particularly poignant for Trevor who served his own apprenticeship at our Lillyhall facility under the mentorship of current Shepley Group apprentice supervisor, Dave Norman! Trevor was able share the story of his journey from apprentice plater to his current role as a Shepley Group director
