Diversity and Inclusion.

We aim to be as diverse and inclusive as possible, treating our workforce with respect and ensuring all of our staff can be themselves and feel valued. We recognise the contribution that is made when everybody is included, and we try our best to develop an environment in which our staff can perform at their best, because that’s how society thrives.

Diversity Forum.

The Shepley Group currently operate a diversity and inclusion forum, where employees of various cultures and backgrounds meet to share their life experiences and collate ideas on how the Group can improve. During this time, they have worked to gather information through a diversity and inclusion survey. This provided us with a view on our current diversity position.

This forum provides a place for employees to share their views on working for us, tell us what we’re doing well and what we could do better, enabling them to feel that their views are valued, and us to understand our staff better. It also gets us one step closer to our goal of becoming a truly inclusive employer. An employer that encourages people to be themselves.

Women in Engineering.

Some studies show only 22% of roles in engineering are filled by women. We want that to be changed. In 2022, over half of our apprentice intake were female, which we hope shows a positive change in the attitudes around engineering.

Perceptions are changing, and we want to raise the profile of women in engineering to inspire future generations. Through our attendance at STEM events, our sponsorships of girls’ amateur sports teams and our work experience and apprenticeship programmes, we want to promote engineering, empower women and let all girls know that the sector is for everybody.

We regularly sit down with our female employees and speak to them about their journey and what challenges they, and other women they know, have faced in their careers, and some that they still face today. This enables us to break down the barriers that we can to open our talent pool as wide as possible, to increase creativity and collaboration.
