#INWED23

Meet Kim.

“Engineering has always been something I’ve been interested in and couldn’t miss out on the opportunity.”

This #INWED2023 we’re shining a spotlight on some of the inspirational females working for us at the Shepley Group, helping us to build a legacy of excellence. Meet Kim Wearden, Technical Administrator for Shepley Engineers. Learn more about what drove her to engineering and her advice to other females who are looking at it as a potential career option.

How or why did you choose your career path?

I originally worked on the main desk at Springfields Nuclear Fuels, so I’d heard a lot about Shepley Engineers during my time there. I found out Shepley Engineers were recruiting a Technical Administrator at the Springfields office. I was very interested in the role as engineering has always been something I’ve been interested in and couldn’t miss out on the opportunity. I have loved working here; every day is different and challenging (which is what I wanted!)

Who or what inspires you?

Cheesy, I know! But my work colleagues, we have such a great work relationship, and we all support each other to do better!

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in the workplace?

My biggest challenge was coming into an all-male office environment, knowing I’d be the only female within the office, but I knew from day one, this was nothing to worry about. All the employees in the office are very helpful and are a great bunch to work with.

What does a typical day in your job involve?

My days can vary so much, I have days where I sort all the timesheets, training records, security packs for new employees or just do general office duties and administrators’ jobs.

What would you say to girls in school who may be considering engineering as a career choice?

Go for it! Don’t listen to anyone else. It’s a great industry to work for! There’s so many jobs within the engineering industry and you won’t look back!
