First Female Mechanical Apprentice Completes EPA

This week Leia Reid passed her Level 3 Welding End Point Assessment (EPA), marking a significant milestone in Shepley Group history.

Leia joined the Shepley Group Apprentice Programme in 2019 and since then has been training in welding at Gen II, West Cumberland Engineering at Lillyhall and more recently at Sellafield site, where she has been successfully deployed on some of the various contracts and frameworks that the Shepley Group support.

On passing her EPA, Leia has become the first female mechanical apprentice to complete for the Shepley Group, which is a fantastic personal achievement for Leia and a great milestone for our Group. Following the first female appointment to our Board of Directors earlier this year, this achievement is another great step as we work toward Investors in Diversity accreditation.

Leia is one of 17 current female apprentices at the Shepley Group, 6 of which are training in welding trades. Ryan Christie (Project Manager at Shepley Group) said;

“Leia is an incredibly diligent and hard-working young engineer who thoroughly deserves her recent success in her EPA. Leia is a fantastic role model for all our current and future apprentices and her success is testament that hard work really does pay off!”

Well done Leia, keep up the hard work and we look forward to seeing your future develop at the Shepley Group!
