Shepley Decontamination Services Specialists were approached by Sellafield Ltd to undertake the decontamination of a ventilation duct located on a pipe bridge within the HALES (Highly Active Liquid Evaporation and Storage) facility on the Sellafield site. In order to minimise the spread of contamination, the decontamination was undertaken using hands on techniques and specialist decontamination chemicals. The SDS team are used on a regular basis to assist the Sellafield Ltd HALES operations; in particular with the more challenging decontamination issues that can arise with this plant.
KEY FACTS:
• The work was completed successfully and safely with the ventilation duct being cleaned to background levels.
• Chemical decontamination reagents and techniques were applied in a controlled and reliable manner
• SDS were able to work flexibly to meet customer deadlines.
• The work was completed very quickly taking only 7 working days from being first contacted, raising commercial documentation, providing quotes, assisting risk assessments and undertaking the work on plant

Shepley Decontamination Services Specialists were first introduced to me some time ago and we have completed several projects successfully since then, the most recent being the work at Pipe Bridge.
After the initial contact and explanation of what we were looking for, the decontamination team provided a safe professional approach to each aspect of the work, and worked well with the building operatives who have every confidence in them, I feel that they are a real asset to the Building and Sellafield site
